You don’t have to be an art connoisseur to understand that Salvador Dali’s work is truly exceptional. His work from 1937, the diptych entitled Couple aux têtes pleines de nuages, is up for sale at Bonham’s London Auction on 26 March. This oil-on-wood-panel painting was made at the peak of his Surrealist period when the Spanish Civil War drove the artist to produce several pieces considered to be masterworks. The diptych Couple aux têtes pleines de nuages depicts the couple (the artist and his wife) with their “heads full of clouds. His work is exacted to fetch up to £10 million (approx. $13 million USD) at auction. The painting consists of panels featuring a desert landscape saturated with the artist’s recurring surrealist subjects like scattered rocks, a disfigured tree, a giraffe on fire, and indistinct human figures.
For those interested to see this thing of beauty in person, Couple aux têtes pleines de nuages is available to view at Bonhams’ main saleroom from now until February 23. The Impressionist and Modern Art sale will take place on March 26, where the work is being offered at auction for the first time and without guarantee.
