The most expensive cognac to be auctioned – A bottle of Louis XIII sells for $134k

And yet another most expensive has been announced. So many of them this week, it should be declared the most expensive week ever! ‘Journey of a King’ or ‘L’Odyssee D’un Roi’ was sold at Sotheby’s in New York for $134,750. The price tag has made it one of the most expensive bottles to be auctioned. This bottle of Louis XIII Cognac, created by cellar master Baptiste Loiseau with a selection of Louis XIII’s oldest Eaux-de-vie, is one of three. A second one will go under the hammer in Hong Kong in October, and in London in November. The bottle comes packaged in a leather trunk hand-stitched by Hermes and is accompanied by a crystal decanter. It also came with four serving glasses that were mouth-blown, cut, and hand-engraved at the royal crystalluria Saint-Louis, in France.

Both glasses and bottles have got 19-century maps engraved on them. The set sold in New York had a map of North America, while next month’s bottle will have Asia, and the third one that of Europe. The auction at Sotheby’s, which was held over the weekend, made sales of some $5 million worth of wine. Cheers to high spirits.
