Being the part of the Reliance Industries family that is spearheaded by a $111 billion tycoon, Mukesh Ambani has its perks (read: luxury timepieces). The entire family flaunted some incredibly iced wrists during their heir Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding festivities at Jamnagar, India. The event got under one roof noteworthy high-net individuals like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Ivanka Trump, and many more. But it was the man of the moment Anant, who grabbed attention not owing to the OTT celebrations but his exceptional choice in watches (even the Zuckerbergs swooned over his timepiece). This time it was the Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time 5990/1422G ‘Rubies’ in 18k white gold, a masterpiece priced upwards of $1.4 million.
The scion had sported the exact same Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time with emeralds and diamonds set in 18k white gold during the 2-day launch event of the NMACC back in April 2023. That fantastic timepiece even flaunted additional 10 baguette-cut emeralds as hour markers, but it didn’t match his outfit. For his special day, the 28-year-old chose to up the ante with the mouthwatering rubies and baguette-cut diamonds version to match his red outfit. How Princely of him right? The luxury timepiece displays a sunburst dial featuring an embossed horizontal pattern and applied hour-markers. The baton-style hands are in rose gold and come with a luminescent coating. The model combines three highly sought-after complications: a self-winding flyback chronograph, an easy-to-use Travel Time function, and a date display, coupled with local time.
Of course, Anant’s iced-out version is also completely drenched in dazzling rubies around the bezel and in the center of the bracelet in what seems like a flush setting that doesn’t interrupt the juxtaposition of the gems. Everywhere else rows of baguette-shaped diamonds envelope the rubies. It doesn’t take a genius to guess why Ambani’s version is not seen anywhere. The piece is off-catalog and offered to VIP clients of Patek, and with the ultra-rare $9 million Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Reference 6300G and the $6.5 million Patek Philippe Grand Complication Sky Moon Tourbillon in his kitty, the Brown University graduate certainly qualifies. ‘
The good news for watch connoisseurs is that they will be seeing a lot more of these incredible horological examples come July 2024 when the watch enthusiast, animal-lover, and uncrowned prince of India, will tie the knot with his fiance Merchant but not without some stellar luxury watches on his wrists.
