The inauguration ceremony of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) that recently took place in Mumbai, India was a grand affair, with prominent celebrities from across the world marking their presence at the event. The two-day gala lured fashion enthusiasts and spectators from all corners of the planet, who were excited to watch their favorite stars decked out in elaborate dresses and matching accessories worth hundreds and thousands of dollars. Among them was a very special timepiece that was spotted by watch enthusiasts on the wrist of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Nita and Mukesh Ambani – the richest person in Asia. The 28-year-old was seen at the gala wearing an ultra-rare PatekPhilippe worth $9 million, which grabbed a lot of attention on the internet.
With a total of 20 complications, the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Reference 6300G worn by Anant Ambani is believed to be the most complicated watch ever made by the iconic Swiss watchmaker. In fact, another iteration of the timepiece currently holds the record for the most expensive watch ever sold. But it’s not the only rare and uber-expensive piece of haute horology owned by the Ambani scion. Anant is known to have a penchant for high-end watches and it is believed that his personal collection consists of many highly-collectible and ultra-rare watches.
While his father, Mukesh Ambani, is mostly seen wearing simple clothes along with unremarkable and nondescript watches, including an $8500 Rolex with a battery-powered Quartz movement, Anant prefers to wear properly designed outfits that are carefully matched to his watches. Let’s have a look at some of those incredible pieces from Anant Ambani’s watch collection.
Richard Mille RMS10 “Asia Koi Fish Tourbillon”
A few years back, Anant Ambani was photographed wearing a Richard Mille RMS10 “Asia Koi Fish Tourbillon” that matched the colors of his dress, which included a red colored sleeveless jacket and a yellow shirt. What makes the timepiece truly special is that it’s a bespoke creation.
The unique piece features Richard Mille’s signature tonneau-shaped case covered with diamonds, while the dial gets hand-painted miniature sculptures of koi fish that appear to be swimming on the dial. Very little is known about the one-of-a-kind watch, but it’s reportedly worth $1.2 million.
Jewel-encrusted off-catalog Patek Philippe Nautilus
The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime wasn’t the only ultra-rare watch by the Swiss watchmaker worn by Anant Ambani during the 2-day launch event of the NMACC. At one of the functions, he was spotted wearing an off-catalog Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph that is believed to be offered only to the most important patrons of the brand.
The case and the bracelet are encrusted with baguette-cut diamonds and emeralds. In fact, if you look closely, the buttons of the dress worn by Ambani at the event match the diamond and emerald combination of the watch. Since it’s an off-catalog piece, the price of the stunning watch is not known; but it’s expected to cost close to the million-dollar mark.
Richard Mille RM 27-02 ‘Tourbillion-Rafael Nadal’
Richard Mille is known for making highly-technical Avant Garde watches created for celebrated athletes; the RM 27-02 ‘Tourbillion-Rafael Nadal’ is one of them. Introduced in 2015, the watch was spawned out of a partnership with tennis superstar Rafael Nadal. It was the first watch to be made from made of TPT Quartz, making it ultra-light. The highlight of the watch is that it can sustain shocks up to 5000g without damaging the movement.
A couple of years back, Anant Ambani was spotted wearing the watch while supporting his cricket team, the Mumbai Indians. Only 50 examples of the watch were made and it carried a price tag of around $850,000.
Who is Anant Ambani?
Anant Ambani is the youngest son of Mukesh Ambani, an Indian billionaire who chairs and runs $104 billion Reliance Industries. Anant did his schooling at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai, an educational institution named after his famed grandfather, before heading to the United States to complete his graduation from Brown University in Rhode Island. Known for his love for expensive cars and watches, the 28-year-old currently sits on the board of directors of Jio Platforms – a multi-billion-dollar technology company – and also plays a key role in running the Mukesh-Ambani-owned cricket team, the Mumbai Indians.
