Up next in sensational collabs, we have Ikea and Swedish House Mafia, who have joined forces for a collection of music-inspired furniture and homeware. The former’s iconic Frakta bag too has been upgraded to a new black version that is devoid of any color and can fit up to 100 vinyl records. But wait, there’s more!
The music legends have worked with the brand to create a carrier for cables, cords, and other electronic music accessories, as well as a crossbody bag for headphones and a laptop. In all, the collection will include over 20 furniture pieces and “smart home furnishing solutions.”
Commenting on the collaboration, IKEA designer and fellow musician Friso Wiersma said, “It is so nice to work with people like the guys in Swedish House Mafia. They have a strong creative vision in everything that they do, and they are people who, in a good way, want to have control over every small little detail. As a designer, I am the same. I am meticulous; I love solving and thinking about even the smallest little stitch in a bag. It has been a really good match in that sense.”
Remarking similarly, Swedish House Mafia added, “FRAKTA is one of those IKEA classics that everyone has. We wanted to do our take on it from a music creation perspective, depending on what type of gear you carry with you on the go. Our different takes on the bag are themes shared for the whole collection. All items in the collection have a timeless theme with a distinct trace of our DNA.”
The Ikea X Swedish House Mafia collection will be unveiled during the Milan Design Week before finally making it to stores in September 2022.
