German audio brand Sennheiser turned 75 this year and has launched several anniversary edition products over the last few months as a part of the company’s ongoing 75th-anniversary celebrations. The latest anniversary special to mark the momentous occasion comes in the form of an ultra-limited edition version of the classic HD 800 S headset. The commemorative piece will be limited to just 750 units worldwide and will be available for $1700 when it goes on sale starting September 22. The collector’s edition of the high-end headphones comes in a special matte gold color that beautifully augments the black and silver hues of the set. “Our 75-year history has not only been shaped by exceptional ideas and innovations, by taking on challenging projects and achieving numerous successes — above all, we are celebrating an enduring passion for great sound this year,” said Andreas Sennheiser, co-CEO of Sennheiser.
Sennheiser says the anniversary edition headsets are handcrafted at the company’s headquarters in Wedemark, Germany. The housing is made from glass-fiber strengthened plastic to give it exceptional durability while making it lightweight. The earpads are made from a vegan velour material which not only offers increased comfort but should also attract animal lovers. Each headset will come with a unique serial number laser engraved on the headband denoting its exclusivity. In terms of hardware, the anniversary edition seems to be identical to the standard variant with a frequency range of 4 to 51,000 Hz and its patented 56mm Duofol transducers that keep total harmonic distortion to less than 0.02 percent.
