After creating a number of bank busting culinary treats including the famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and the world’s most expensive Hot Dog the popular New York eatery Serendipity 3 is at it again! This time the restaurant has given us what is likely the world’s most expensive grilled cheese sandwich priced at $214. The gold dipped creation has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of records as the World’s Most Expensive Sandwich.
What goes into this majestic snack? It starts with French Pullman bread that’s made with Dom Perignon champagne and 24 karat gold flakes. This gets a good smear of white truffle spread and the next ingredient Caciocavallo Podolico cheese is added. After being grilled to perfection, the sandwich’s edges are dipped in gold leaf and it is served alongside a Baccarat crystal glass filled with lobster and tomato bisque.
Chef Joe Calderoni told the Daily Mail, “We came up with grilled cheese because that’s the ultimate in comfort food. What better way to celebrate that sandwich than with the quintessential version of that sandwich?” He added, “We source the ingredients by looking for the finest and rarest ingredients in the world. And we try to put them together to create an ultimate experience in dining. The bread is baked with Dom Perignon champagne, some white truffle oil with the gold. Then our grass-fed butter infused with white truffles. Then we take caciocavallo cheese – it’s very rare.”
A grilled cheese sandwich may be the ultimate comfort food, but you can’t just walk in and order it. You need to place an order 48 hours in advance, so prepare to wait two days before you get to satisfy your craving!
