Gold weathervane is hoisted atop Chichester Cathedral

The weathervane atop the Chichester Cathedral was given a new lease of life, as a shimmering gilded cockerel made using Fairtrade Fairmined gold was installed. Created in collaboration between Chichester Cathedral, CRED Jewellery, and the Fairtrade Foundation, the 277ft steeple is the first to sport a public decoration cast in Fairtrade Fairmined gold. The gold to do up 3ft cockerel-shaped weathervane has been sourced from the Sotrami Mine in Peru.

The gold was turned into a gold leaf by Florence-based Company Manetti, and the statue sports 8 microns thick gold leaf covering, made from 23.5-carat gold, that has been combined with a fraction of copper.
