You might not believe it’s possible to find tranquillity amidst tranquillity, but if you’re a guest at the Ritz Carlton Langkawi, it’s quite possible. While the Ritz is designed to be a resort that appears secluded and serene, it has every amenity you could possibly want for a thoroughly relaxing and comforting stay. Form fine dining eateries on the property to infinity pools with sunset views, children’s play and development areas and, adults-only lounge, among a plethora of facilities, to maximise your serenity, your stay won’t be complete without a trip to the Ritz Carlton Spa.
Located at the outermost tip of the property a couple of meters away from the islands first authentic Chinese, fine dine restaurant Hai Yan, the spa culminates over the ocean and is surrounded by the gorgeous rainforest.
The Amenities
The uniquely styled rooms set over the rocky waters are designed to resemble the local Malay fishermen’s nets called ‘Bubus’. The tall intricately designed shapes could also be compared to a birdcage or a cocoon and add that perfect balance of tradition with pizazz and a flamboyant style that is the Ritz Langkawi.
Each of the five Bubus/ rooms are extended out and sit on stilts above the water where guests can revel in the majesty of the Andaman Sea after a period of luxurious pampering. From a well-equipped thermal suite with lavishly designed interiors to a sauna, invigorating ice fountain state-of-the-art experience showers, separate male and female vitality pools with massage jets, super comfortable air loungers, and a manicure and pedicure lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, the Ritz Carlton Spa has it all.
The Treatment
We recommend spending an afternoon (or two, depending on your needs) at the spa and rejuvenating yourself at the spa. You can select a treatment from a buffet of choices that are delicately crafted with a blend of traditional methods and practices with new-age techniques to heal your body, mind and spirit.
Our treatment was a blend of calming aroma-therapy designed to soothe, nurture and revitalise. We were led along the open walkway, amidst a cool sea-breeze from the east with the sounds of the waves braking beneath us and the gentle swishes of the wind through the trees around us. It sets the mood exquisitely. The Couple’s Treatment Pavilion sits in the middle of the location and features a large open, circular room (55 sq mts) with individual changing rooms on either side. A large door opens out onto a balcony that overlooks the sea, parts of the property and the island.
Once you’ve changed and readied yourself for treatments the therapist sits you down and offers you a choice of aromas and time-honoured massage techniques and treatments, being very careful to ensure that can provide you with the best possible outcome. They were extremely polite, knowledgeable and above all, seemed genuinely concerned about our general health so as to facilitate the optimum techniques without any complications. Yet another testament to the gallant service standards the Ritz prides itself on.
The intoxicating aroma of Jasmine and warm scented oils placed directly below the massage table wafts up and warps you in a cloud of serenity while the soft, folk music embraces the room and lets it all sink in. The massage was invigorating and we were left with a sense of peace. We stepped out onto the balcony and basked in the warm sun and cool breeze before freshening up and making our way back to our room.
While the Spa therapy may conclude, your treatment can still continue; the Ritz-Carlton Global Spa Collection by award-winning natural skincare experts ESPA, has a choice selection of oils, creams and products that you could purchase and continue to use to achieve great results.
