2017 McLaren 570GT – A McLaren racecar that is practical?

Think about McLaren and the words that come to your mind are speed, curves, more speed, bank breaking price tag, handling, even more speed, and so forth. But something that you wont think about is practicality and comfort. That has always been the Porsche 911 territory, them germans sure do know how to mix the two together and that too beautifully. But the English are not far behind, and the McLaren 570GT shows us just that. A Grand Tourer variant of its faster and agile sibling the 570S Coupe. It still is a two seater but the suspension is a bit supple, there is more luggage space and there is even a glovebox. Interestingly its the first McLaren to have a glovebox after the sports series.

At $198,950 it is a bit pricier than the standard 570S but McLaren has sweetened the deal by throwing in some goodies as standard equipment. The 570GT comes with a panaromic sunroof, soft-close doors, 12 speaker Bower and Wilkins speaker system, plush nappa leather interiors, seat adjustment and more. The extras and the creature comforts do add weight, 80 pounds to be precise, this does push the 0 to 60 mph mark to 3.4 seconds instead of the 3.2 secs on the 570S while retaining the top speed to 204 mph. Under the hood is the familiar 3.8 liter turbocharged V8 that cranks out 562 angry horses and 443 lb-ft of torque. Sales for the 570GT start later this year.
