As Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s big, fat impending wedding draws closer (it’s now less than two months away), the star of the show is also moving steadily toward Venice. The tech tycoon’s $500 million superyacht, Koru, has left the United States and was recently spotted in Mallorca, Spain. Interestingly, until last week, the 416-foot beauty by Oceanco was slyly cruising along the UK coast and the Atlantic, with its destination under wraps, according to MarineTraffic. Meanwhile, Koru’s support vessel, the $75 million Abeona, was openly headed to Gibraltar and is now anchored at Palma de Mallorca, according to Marine Traffic.
The world’s largest sailing yacht, with masts towering 230 feet high, is also basking in the beauty of Mallorca, according to Diario de Mallorca. What business Koru and Abeona have in the Mediterranean is no secret. This dashing duo of luxury vessels has arrived early to prepare for the wedding nuptials of the Amazon founder and the former news anchor, set to be held in Venice from June 24 to June 26.
Yes, it may seem a little early to get the party started, but there’s a good chance that Koru could be heading to the La Ciotat facility in France for some primping and priming before participating in what could easily be called the wedding of the century, at least until another centibillionaire decides to say “I do.” Alternatively, the Oceanco masterpiece, featuring two wooden decks, a navy-blue hull, and a wooden figurehead carved in the likeness of a voluptuous Lauren, may soon depart for the Italian city, where she will accommodate 18 guests and be serviced by a crew of 40.
Naturally, it’s unlikely that Bezos, a billionaire worth $205 billion, will have his wedding guests staying aboard Koru. After all, he has already booked some of Venice’s most iconic properties, including the Gritti Palace, Hotel Danieli, Aman Venice, the ultra-exclusive Belmond Hotel Cipriani on Giudecca Island, and the glamorous St. Regis Venice.
The city will be buzzing with A-listers such as Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, members of the Trump family, and Anna Wintour. Yet Koru, the special memento of the Bezos-Sánchez love saga, will be reserved for something even more special.
The Koru connection
While the vessel is making the most of its time in Mallorca, it’s the perfect moment to recall the special connection between Bezos, luxury yachts, and this pristine Mediterranean setting. Back in 2019, the 60-year-old billionaire, along with Sánchez, made a trip to Mallorca aboard David Geffen’s famed yacht, Rising Sun, following his complicated divorce from writer MacKenzie Scott. Perhaps the pristine setting and the indulgent lifestyle aboard Rising Sun left a lasting impression on the magnate, one that ultimately manifested in Koru’s debut in Mallorca in the summer of 2023.
Since then, much has unfolded aboard Koru; Bezos proposed to Sánchez with a 30-carat dazzler, Sánchez hosted engagement parties packed with friends, and the yacht embarked on its maiden voyage with stops at Mallorca, Ibiza, and the French Riviera.
While there are no clear revelations yet about Koru’s exact role in the wedding, if history is any guide, the vessel will surely be a dazzling centerpiece of the nuptials, right after the power couple, of course!
