Moored on the French Riviera, Jeff Bezos’s $500-million sailing yacht buzzes with crew polishing teak, fluffing cushions, and readying the vessel for the madly-in-love Amazon founder to spend quality time with his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez

While Lauren Sánchez has been reveling in Parisian glamour, Jeff Bezos has been embracing his bachelor phase in Madrid, their ever-present third wheel, the $500 million megayacht Koru, is quietly basking in the sun-drenched waters of Cannes. The 416-foot Oceanco mammoth, delivered in 2023, has been trailing the Amazon founder and his lady love ever since, and was recently captured on video in all its sailing glory.

From a distance, Koru is a classic, a beauty that dominates the French coast, looking far more regal than her shadow vessel, Abeona, the $75 million Damen Yachting marvel that follows loyally behind (and the crew enjoying a game of pickleball on her helipad). However, up close, she leans more industrial, with an array of sailing lines, poles, and gear giving the exterior a slightly under-construction feel rather than a perfectly polished one.

The controversial teak decks gleam under the sun, while a crew member, looking like a miniature Lilliputian, strolls the bridge deck. Koru is undoubtedly imposing as the world’s largest sailing yacht. But interestingly, it isn’t the covered swimming pool aft, the wooden interiors, or the sheer scale of the vessel that steals the show, it’s the figurehead.

Carved in wood and mounted at the bow, the sculpture bears a striking resemblance to helicopter pilot and soon-to-be Mrs. Bezos, Sánchez. It draws more attention than any luxury-laden amenity aboard. In a Vogue interview, Sánchez clarified that the figure isn’t her but a Greek goddess, still, it looks every bit like the divine feminine it represents. For Koru, the sculpture is what the leaping jaguar is to Shahid Khan’s 400-foot Kismet, a signature identity.

Another feature that one cannot ignore is the trio of 230-foot masts, standing tall and visible even from a distance, rising above the white and brown decks of Koru. But it’s not just her towering presence that makes her unforgettable, this sailing masterpiece has come to embody Jeff and Lauren’s most meaningful milestones. Everything revolves around Koru, including romantic cruises across the Mediterranean, a proposal sealed with a 30-carat rock, celebrations with friends and family, and even Sánchez’s helicopter, which lands on the support vessel Abeona.

With the wedding approaching, I observed that most of Koru’s outdoor furniture and alfresco areas are currently covered, likely a sign of recent refits or final touches in preparation for the grand celebration. The yacht will once again take center stage, this time in the enchanting Venetian lagoon from June 24–26.

But before marking yet another milestone, the madly in love couple were spotted aboard their 416-foot love mammoth, soaking up the Riviera sun, sharing sweet PDA, and indulging in affectionate moments. As the backdrop will eventually shift from the sun-kissed French Riviera to the romance of Venice, one thing will remain unchanged: Koru’s charm that is eternal, commanding, and unforgettable.
