In what can only be described as a spectacular maritime mishap, one of the world’s most exclusive luxury vessels met an inglorious end this weekend off the coast of Miami. A Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht, valued at approximately $4.5 million, sank during Miami’s Formula 1 weekend festivities when a group of over 30 influencers and models overloaded the vessel designed for far fewer passengers.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when approximately 32 people boarded the sleek, high-performance yacht for what was intended to be a champagne-fueled cruise along Miami Beach. Social media footage shows the passengers initially enjoying their excursion, dancing and taking photos on the luxury vessel before things took a dramatic turn. As the stern began taking on water, the yacht’s bow tilted skyward in a nearly vertical position before the entire vessel slipped beneath the waves.

What makes this maritime incident particularly noteworthy is the extraordinary rarity and value of the vessel itself. The Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 represents the Italian supercar manufacturer’s exclusive foray into maritime luxury, with only 11 such vessels ever produced – now reduced to 10. The yacht is a masterwork of Italian engineering and design, the result of a high-profile collaboration between Automobili Lamborghini and The Italian Sea Group’s Tecnomar brand.

The vessel’s specifications are nothing short of remarkable. Powered by twin MAN V12 engines producing a combined 4,000 horsepower, the 63-foot yacht can reach speeds of 63 knots (approximately 72 mph) – exceptional velocity for a vessel of its class. Weighing just 24 tons thanks to extensive carbon fiber construction, the yacht takes numerous design cues from Lamborghini’s automotive lineup, particularly the futuristic Sian FKP 37 hybrid supercar.

What sets this vessel apart from typical luxury yachts is its supercar-inspired cockpit, featuring Lamborghini’s signature Carbon Skin finished seats and helm, sports car steering wheel, and dual start/stop buttons mirroring those found in the manufacturer’s high-performance automobiles. The exterior styling pays homage to iconic Lamborghini models from the 1960s and 70s, including the legendary Miura and Countach, while Italian flag-colored fins at the stern proudly display the vessel’s heritage.

The critical error that led to the yacht’s demise appears straightforward: the vessel was designed to accommodate a maximum of 12 people (five guests and two crew for overnight journeys), yet it was loaded with nearly three times that capacity. US Coast Guard responders and good Samaritan vessels managed to rescue all passengers without injuries, a fortunate outcome considering the potential dangers.

Perhaps most remarkably, social media footage showed the passengers maintaining their festive spirits even as the yacht disappeared beneath the waves. Videos captured women laughing, taking selfies with the sinking vessel in the background, and one passenger proudly cradling a rescued $350 bottle of Clase Azul Gold tequila.

The owner of the sunken yacht remains unidentified, though the $4.5 million price tag represents only the starting point for these highly customized vessels. Previous known buyers of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 include MMA superstar Conor McGregor, who purchased his for approximately $3.6 million in 2021.

Maritime authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, though overcrowding appears to be the most likely cause. The vessel reportedly does not pose environmental or navigational hazards as recovery options are evaluated.
