While the mammoth $645 million Breakthrough superyacht sailed away from the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show, the scenery of Port Hercule was dominated by the insanely opulent superyacht Mar. In its absence, Mar, at 351 feet, though slightly smaller than the groundbreaking 390-foot Feadship Breakthrough, yet she remained a milestone Benetti boat. Launched in 2020, the luxury vessel, formerly known as Lana, was purchased in 2023 by senior Abu Dhabi royal Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan.
Now, while the loveliness of Lana has been witnessed by yachting enthusiasts and world-renowned names like Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, who splurged a whopping $300,000-a-day for the extravagant private yacht in Turkey, music royalty Beyoncé, and others, the magnificent Mar made her world debut at this year’s show.
The $200 million vessel underwent a refit in 2021, likely soft updates and maintenance under the new ownership, not a full interior redesign. And why would anyone change a thing about this labor of love? The former owner climbed around the bilges, checked the spaces, and drove quality to the nth degree.
The result was a ship with cathedral-like ceiling heights and the most impressive features. From the minute one steps aboard, there is God in every detail. Take the lobby centerpiece, for instance, a six-meter, mirror-polished, 3D-printed stainless steel “ribbon of light.” A stickler for perfection, the owner had it re-engineered four or five times until every glint made him grin.
The 3,891 GT yacht sleeps 16 guests in eight staterooms, with ceiling heights of nearly nine feet, making it roomier than accommodations found in villas and mansions. Life aboard the Mar motoryacht is truly palatial, with that treatment extended to every deck. The beach club uses materials like ammonite-fossil drawer pulls, turquoise turtle niches with coral, and a hammam with stars, clear evidence of royal ownership and taste in the tiniest details.
The vessel also features a massage room and fold-down terraces for sea-level living. On the sundeck, an eight-meter pool looks bright and inviting, as do the al fresco dining tables with backlit onyx bases. This space comes alive with additions like fire pits, a DJ booth, and more.
The pièce de résistance is the master suite in the owner’s apartment with two private side terraces. For work, there is a study with Bentley armchairs and tiger’s-eye lamps. Beyond the prettiness, this vessel, which boasts a touch-and-go helipad and an armada of toys and tenders, is a powerful ship that uses 2,800 kW electric motors to reach a top speed of 18 knots. Yes, she may not have the technical prowess of Breakthrough, the world’s first hydrogen-fuel superyacht, but her timeless beauty is currently on full display at Port Hercule until September 27, per Yachtcharterfleet. The Mar superyacht can be chartered for $2 million a week for the Mediterranean charter season.

Sheikh Suroor, who resides in a palace in Abu Dhabi, lives at the same level of luxury on the high seas aboard his 351-foot yacht Mar. The board member of Abu Dhabi International School is a constant at major state events. Beyond politics, he leads the Sheikh Suroor Projects Department (SSPD), which developed landmark projects such as Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi Mall, Abu Dhabi Trade Centre, Liwa Centre, Beach Rotana Hotel, and Al Saqr Tower.
