Even those not familiar with the yachting world know that the current yacht that holds the title of being the largest in the world is Eclipse which is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The grandeur of Eclipse eclipsed the other yacht’s so much so that today we are hardly aware of the yachts that came in a close second to the Eclipse. So there is no question that folks would have an idea about the yacht that holds the title of being the world’s sixth-largest yacht. Well, thanks to music magnate David Geffen’s latest purchase, the ordinary folks too will now become familiar with the world’s sixth-largest yacht, “The Rising Sun.”
Originally commissioned by the Oracle billionaire from Germany-based Lurssen shipyard in 2004, the 456 ft. mega yacht, which cost approximately $250 million to build, now solely belongs to the music magnate after he purchased it from co-owner Larry Ellison. Powered by four MTU 20V 8000 M90 diesel engines that churn a combined output of 50,000 hp, this yacht moves along at a speed of up to 28 knots.
The Rising Sun is a luxury yacht that offers accommodations for up to 12 people in addition to 30 crew members and boasts of 82 rooms on five decks. Onyx counter-tops, a spa, sauna, gymnasium, wine cellar, private cinema, and a basketball court that transforms into a helipad are just some of the high-end features you will spot on this yacht. According to reports, Geffen has sent the yacht back to its shipyard for some modifications. After which, we are sure this yacht will give some stiff competition to the other large yachts sailing the seas today.
