Only Daniel Craig can wear a $260 watch to an awards gala and make it look like a million bucks

If you have got the slightest interest in the world of horology, I don’t need to remind you that the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch was the most hyped timepiece to be launched in 2022. There’s no shame in admitting that I was one of the thousands of watch enthusiasts who jumped on the hype train. But it looks like the surprisingly affordable collaborative timepiece also found a fan in Daniel Craig. He is a brand ambassador for Omega and is mostly seen wearing different Seamaster models, be it in real life or in many of his movies. However, the English actor chose to wear a Mission to Neptune version of the MoonSwatch for his appearance at the National Board of Review 2023 Awards Gala on Sunday evening. And let me tell you that the watch looked surprisingly well-suited for the former James Bond actor.

MoonSwatch Mission to Neptune

You usually don’t expect a Hollywood A-lister to sport an affordable watch with a case made of plastic to a big event; however, the MoonSwatch has earned itself a reputation comparable to watches that are a hundred times more expensive. Craig was photographed wearing the $260 watch while the award for Best Supporting Actress to his co-star Janelle Monáe for her role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Interestingly, the British actor also wore a special Omega Seamaster in the film. We can’t really figure out the reason why Craig swapped his Seamaster for a MoonSwatch for the event. Was it done at the behest of Omega for publicity? Or, is it that Craig is actually a big fan of the watch and thought it would look good with his bespoke blue suit (which it did)? We don’t know, but this will only further escalate its desirability.

MoonSwatch – the affordably-priced unobtanium
Last year, Swatch and Omega announced a surprise collaboration to pay tribute to the original Moonwatch by creating a Swatchified but nearly identical version of the iconic Speedmaster watch. It was released in 11 celestial color variations with an affordable price tag of $260. The only problem was it wasn’t available online and was sold through select Swatch stores across the globe. The hype around the watch was so big that massive queues were formed outside the stores and they were snapped up in no time, earning the MoonSwatch the unobtanium status.
