Since 1988, Chopard has served as partner and official timekeeper for the Mille Miglia classic car race. This year the brand will finally launch a timepiece that is inspired by the legendary Italian race. The Chopard Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition will feature (for the first time ever) an in-house movement certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).
Many of the watch’s design elements reference the cars that participated in “la corsa più bella del mondo” between 1940 and 1957 including a power-reserve indicator reminiscent of a petrol gauge, a flaming “Rossa Corsa” red dial and oversized numerals evoking typical 1950s dashboards
The watch is available in two variants: a steel case and an 18k rose gold case. The former will be limited to 1000 pieces while only 100 pieces of the Rose gold variant will be created. The bezel features an aluminum insert, while the sapphire display back bears the inscriptions: “Mille Miglia” and “Brescia > Rome > Brescia.” The watch is water resistant to 100m.
On the inside the Mille Miglia 2015 Race Edition boasts a Chopard Calibre 01.08-C with 40 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 60 hours. This movement has been developed, designed and assembled in the Chopard’s Fleurier Ebauches workshops. A black leather strap with a steel or 18k rose gold clasp is the finishing touch to this race-ready timepiece.
