Girard-Perregaux and Saint Laurent have joined forces to introduce a limited edition version of the retro-themed Casquette 2.0 watch

Surprising everyone, the French luxury fashion house Saint Laurent has partnered with Girard-Perregaux to release a special limited-edition version of the Casquette watch. This interesting collaboration has been spearheaded by Saint Laurent Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello who redesigned the retro-styled Casquette 2.0 timepiece for the Saint Laurent Rive Droite line. The original Casquette watch was originally produced by the Swiss watchmaker from 1976 until 1978.

Powered by the Caliber 395, a quartz movement, the quirky-looking timepiece was well and truly ahead of its time and featured a tiny LED display. On pushing a tiny button on the case, the LED display circled between displaying time, day and date, and running seconds. Only 8200 examples of the original Casquette were produced, making it a rare and highly desirable model.

Girard-Perregaux brought back the timepiece last year by releasing the Casquette 2.0. While the timepiece gets the same look and design, it is made of modern materials and is powered by the more efficient GP-03980 quartz movement. The new collaborative piece called the Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 01 features the same asymmetrical case that measures 42.40 x 33.60mm.

The case is made of black ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium, while the timepiece gets the characteristic tubular LED display with bright red numerals. It displays hours, minutes, seconds, the day and the date, the month, the year, a chronograph, a second time zone, and a secret date. The Saint Laurent signature appears on the caseback. Rounding out the limited edition is the black ceramic bracelet with rubber lining underneath. The Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent 01 watch is limited to just 100 examples, each priced at $6,700. The retro timepiece is exclusively available at Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles, along with the official Saint Laurent Rive Droite online stores in select regions.
