Jaeger LeCoultre has unveiled three new versions of the Master Grande Tradition Calibre 985. The trio represent the celebration of precision craftsmanship and timeless artistry

Jaeger-LeCoultre has once again proven why it is regarded as the watchmaker of watchmakers with the unveiling of its latest Master Grande Tradition Calibre 985 timepieces. This collection is not simply about luxury design but a celebration of technical artistry, mechanical depth and more than two centuries of horological innovation. The result is a series of watches that combine beauty and engineering with astonishing finesse.

At the core of each model is the calibre 985, a movement developed in 2013 that unites a perpetual calendar, a moon phase, and a flying tourbillon equipped with a cylindrical hairspring. The cylindrical hairspring, an 18th century invention revived by Jaeger-LeCoultre, ensures exceptional stability in all positions, an achievement that speaks to the brand’s commitment to precision. Crafted in titanium, the tourbillon alone is a wonder in miniature. Despite being composed of 83 components, it weighs only 0.38 grams. Altogether the movement brings together 431 parts, offering displays of the day, date, month, year, moon phase accurate to 122 years, and even a night and day indicator.

The artistry of the calibre is matched by the craftsmanship of the case. Each 42mm case is a feat in itself, composed of more than 80 components. Surfaces alternate between brushed, polished and micro-blasted finishes, creating a play of light that highlights the sculptural nature of the design. The collection offers three distinct interpretations. In pink gold with a brown dial, the watch radiates warmth and refinement. In platinum with a polished bezel, it projects cool sophistication. And in platinum adorned with 72 baguette cut diamonds, it achieves an extraordinary brilliance that transforms horology into wearable art.

On the dial side, subtle yet intricate details enhance the aesthetic. A hand bevelled bridge spans the dial, while the recessed tourbillon aperture adds depth. Opaline subdials shift tones with changing light, engraved calendar numerals deliver texture, and micro blasted tracks create a sense of technical precision. Each element contributes to a layered visual composition that draws the eye deeper into the mechanics of timekeeping.

Turning the watch over reveals the final flourish. Through the sapphire caseback, one discovers Haute Horlogerie finishing of the highest order. Blued screws, sun-rayed Côtes de Genève, delicate snailing, and hand bevelling are all present, crowned by a 22k rose gold rotor. The rotor is engraved with the medal awarded to founder Antoine LeCoultre at the Great Exhibition of 1851, an emblem of heritage that connects past triumphs with modern mastery.

Exquisitely complex yet elegantly refined, the Master Grande Tradition Calibre 985 is a reminder that true perfection in watchmaking is not achieved overnight. It is the product of generations of innovation, patience, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Jaeger-LeCoultre has distilled that philosophy into these new timepieces, offering collectors not just instruments of time, but symbols of timeless artistry.
