Piaget is timeless; it is eternal. It may have undergone an enticing metamorphosis from time to time, but the attraction has remained unchanged. The Piaget, which was advertised in the 1980s as “the world’s ultimate sports watch,” has donned several avatars over the years, from ultra-slim to square iterations, gem-set two-tone, and many more. On the 150th anniversary of Piaget and the 45th anniversary of the Piaget Polo, the brand released the all-new Piaget Polo 79 watch, honoring the original.
The 80s are back, bigger, bolder, and, if I may say so, golder! The Piaget Polo 79 is a $73,000 masterpiece, sporting a 38mm dial. The glistening, in-your-face-incredible 18-karat yellow gold round watch is powered by the brand’s in-house-made ultra-thin mechanical 1200P1 self-winding caliber, whose movement is visible via a transparent sapphire case back.
The watch bids adieu to its former demurity and adopts an unabashed flair for flamboyance with a captivating brushed gold bracelet contrasting with the polished gadroons and bevels on the bracelet’s edges.
The dial doesn’t steal the attention and blends with the rest of the watch, donning brushed gold and polished gadroons with the Piaget logo at 12 o’clock. The Polo 79 has just two hands made of brushed gold and will be a limited edition with a price tag of $73,000.
