Ralph Lauren introduces new Automotive Skeleton Watch inspired by his 1938 Bugatti 57SC

In addition to being one of the most iconic clothing designers in the industry, Ralph Lauren is also a well-known car enthusiast. Ralph Lauren’s impressive car collection clearly shows his deep love for uber-exotic automobiles, and one of the many rare and classic collectables he owns is a $40 million 1938 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Coupe. Paying tribute to the beauty, the 75-year old designer had introduced an Automotive Chronograph watch last year in October. Using the vehicle as inspiration once again, Ralph Lauren has created another stunning timepiece, the Automotive Skeleton. Unveiled at the 2015 SIHH, the RL Automotive Skeleton timepiece is a part of the ‘automotive collection’.

The most prominent design element of the watch is the ring of Amboyna burl wood encircling the display, a material that was commonly used during the 1930s in the instrument panels of luxury vehicles. In addition to that, inside the case, black oxidized hands are lined in a brassy Super-LumiNova styling. The dial is black matte galvanic Azure, with subdial at 12 o’clock, sporting a beige RL logo. Inside there’s a Swiss manual-wind IWC reserve of 45 hours. Just like the car it draws its inspiration from, the watch is hand built and comes with a black alligator strap with black Alsavel lining and a black shot-blasted stainless steel pin buckle. There is no word on the pricing but we estimate it to be around $35,000.
