Van Cleef and Arpels to unveil two more timepieces combining haute horology with poetry

While what we wear has forever been seen as a form of self-expression by designers and purchasers alike, Van Cleef and Arpels ventures one step further by giving the world wearable poetry. Their collection of poetic timepieces filled this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie with myriad hues and creatures. The same will now travel to Hong Kong’s Watches and Wonders exhibit graced by two more additions of horological wonders.

Upon first glance, the limited edition Lady Arpels Jour/Nuit Cerfs-Volants Poetic Complication poses what the French jewelry brand is famous for, sure. But look closer, and you will feel reviving, a romantic air that enraptures an onlooker in a single stare. This is a watch, yet altogether a whole lot more. Crafted on mother-of-pearl using a combination of carving, marquetry, and miniature painting techniques, it reveals a couple launching a kite in the air by day. But with the disk rotating through the day, the serendipitous scene turns to a starry sky at night, come what may.

With the element of time camouflaged in bejeweled florae, The Pavot Mystérieux High Jewelry Timepiece is mystérieux indeed. Inspired by the poppy flower archived by the jeweler in the 1950s, the magnificent artifact features a ruby corolla created using the signature Van Cleef & Arpels Mystery Setting technique. The stones are set such they give the impression of floating, much as you would under the sheen of its sparkling glory. Its grueling craftsmanship also sees pink gold-bearing diamond leaves and a diamond ribbon forming the stunning pavot flower, which can detach from the decadence of the watch and be carried of like a clip brooch separately.

Completing the fantastical assortment are collectibles such as Lady Arpels Ballerine Enchantée. This one is truly an enchantment with a beautiful ballerina posing amidst a white gold case, champlevé enamel, and a bezel set with diamonds. Other poetic timepieces drawing inspiration from butterflies and fairies include the limited edition Charms Extraordinaire Hirondelles with its violet diamond and sapphire serenity and Lady Arpels Papillon Noir Argent donning gray mother-of-pearl, paillonné, and plique-à-jour enamel elegantly.

The new high-end watch fair, Watches & Wonders, will showcase these limited edition luxuries starting September 25-28 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, with watch collectors basking in its revelry.
