Bryan Adams, the Canadian rock star, may have given the world of music lovers hits like “Summer of ’69,” “Heaven,” and “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” among others. But the real treat lies in what he gifted his girlfriends and loved ones. Believe it or not, the heartthrob who was used to witnessing 100,000 capacity stadiums packed to the seams also splurged on those closest to his heart. According to The Guardian, back in the 1990s, when the Hermès Birkin was still rising to icon status, Bryan Adams showed exceptionally great taste and was known to gift the expensive accessory to his loved ones.
While it may be ancient history, the musician who sold more than 15 million copies of “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” in 1991 spent a decent amount on Birkins. Even then, a regular Hermès Birkin costs about $4,000–$8,500, with more elite versions like the crocodile-skin models inching toward $80,000. Not to mention, the waiting period was as frustrating twenty years ago, with waiting lists of up to nine months for finished items. However, Adams got his hands on the much-wanted arm candy and showered it, and his love, on the bevy of beauties he courted.
While his long-term relationship with Danish model Cecilie Thomsen (they dated for 12 years) is well known, some say the best-selling music artist also had a tryst with Princess Diana after her divorce. World-famous supermodel Pamela Anderson was also reportedly at the receiving end of his affection, and perhaps a very stylish and coveted Hermès Birkin. Unlike most relationships, a Birkin is forever, and it is something these women would perhaps continue to admire Adams for, if nothing else.
Even with a classic Birkin 30/35 in Togo leather that was worth about $15,000 in 2000, a typical resale in 2025 could fetch around $30,000 for a bag in very good condition, an increase of more than 85 percent. For a very rare Niloticus Crocodile model with diamonds (estimated at $80,000 in 2001), prices have skyrocketed to around $450,000.
If the lucky women were bestowed with such rare models, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to dub them wearable art. A crocodile- or diamond-hardware Birkin appreciates faster because production is tiny, and collectors pay steep auction prices.
Sotheby’s sold a Diamond Himalaya Birkin 30 for more than $450,000 in 2022, making such pieces some of the best-performing luxury assets. The most expensive Hermès bag to sell at auction in 2024 was a Hermès Kelly 25 Himalaya with diamond hardware, which fetched $330,000. The refrain “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” certainly seems to have played out well for anyone lucky enough to receive a Birkin from Bryan Adams.
