Former Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight and lightweight double-champion Conor McGregor has landed in trouble. As per reports, McGregor’s Bentley Continental GT was temporarily seized after the UFC star was arrested in Dublin on Tuesday night for dangerous driving. Not only was he stopped on a charge of dangerous driving but also his$185,000 Bentley was seized. The Irishman was the highest-earning athlete last year and made it to Forbes’ list of the highest-paid athletes.
The entrepreneur in him defeated the fighter. He made $22 million from fights and a whopping $158 million from everything else (mainly from the Octagon and his critically unpopular whiskey brand). While he has got into trouble with the law in the past, he did slide by without any serious ramifications. This time around, he might not be so lucky as if convicted, McGregor could face a fine of over $6,600, up to six months in prison, or to make matters worse for him, both! The fighter’s spokesperson Karen Kessler said authorities stopped McGregor for alleged road traffic violations.
She said, “Mr. McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by Gardai for alleged road traffic violations. According to ESPN, he passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station,” Kessler said. While the fine would make no difference to the ace MMA fighter, it is the prison sentence that will indeed throw the big punch. The 33-year-old is due to appear at Blanchardstown District Court next month.
