Ordinary billionaires send their kids to private schools; Mark Zuckerberg spent over $110 million buying 11 homes in a plush Palo Alto neighbourhood and then converted one into a private school for his three daughters, making their daily school run a walk across the yard.

Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg is often dubbed husband of the century by Luxurylaunches owing to the number of gestures he does for his better half, Priscilla Chan. But there is more to the man who owns a $300 million launchpad and $30 million wingman yacht, his properties. In particular, his extravagant home in the affluent neighborhood in Palo Alto serves as the main residence for him and his family, including his former pediatrician wife and his three daughters, Maxima (born 2015), August (2017), and Aurelia (2023).

It may seem like one big mansion, but in reality, it’s a collection of at least 11 homes amassed over the years for an eye-watering $110 million. His first one, bought in 2011, was a 5,600-square-foot home on Edgewood Drive.

Out of these nearly dozen individual homes, the power couple who are the force behind the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative combined a whopping five houses for their main house. The other homes nearby have other uses for extended family, and one in particular serves as a private school. The school caters to about 14 children, staffed by six adults, including four teachers, despite city code prohibiting such use in the neighborhood. It is only one of many situations that have been managed by Mark Zuckerberg, the world’s third-richest man, worth $265 billion.

Over the years, city records show 56 permits tied to the properties, including demolition of three homes, a major remodel of a fourth, filled-in pools to create a central garden, wine storage, a fountain, guesthouse, courtyards, a pool house, a trellis-linked storage shed, and the movable pool floor, according to The New York Times. This is also the house that features a 7-foot Daniel Arsham statue of Priscilla Chan. Yet even that commissioned artwork from a celebrated sculptor is overshadowed by the creation of the private school.

The teaching continues at home with Zuckerberg, who began teaching his eldest daughter to code at age 3, helps his children recite Mandarin prayers at bedtime, and favors evenings spent reading over screen time. In terms of hands-on fatherhood, he may have even outdone centibillionaire Bill Gates. Whether for security or as the ultimate billionaire’s flex, his children attend school in their own backyard, in a house entirely dedicated to their learning. The teaching staff is likely top-notch, given the educational backgrounds of both Zuckerberg and Chan.

The lavish estate is also believed to be a mecca of magnificence, boasting a Hydrofloor pool that can be covered for safety or parties, a pickleball court, and a 7,000-square-foot basement, dubbed “the billionaire’s bat cave” by neighbors, in addition to the amenities already mentioned.

Of course, making all this over a span of a decade has rubbed neighbors the wrong way. To mitigate the damage to his sanctuary-building activities, the 40-year-old tech tycoon sent an ice cream truck to a block party and apologized for the inconvenience with gift baskets that included bottles of sparkling wine, chocolates, and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

It’s a good thing the pack includes noise-canceling headphones. Guess the convenience is mostly for Zuckerberg, whose utopia in Palo Alto even spares him the trouble of taking the kids to school. That Porsche minivan, the world’s only bulletproof example? Definitely not for drop-offs.
