Wedding nerves are usually reserved for the bride and groom. But in the case of the impending nuptials of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his ladylove, helicopter pilot Lauren Sanchez, it’s the population of Venice that seems to be getting anxious. Weddings are typically a way for the government to legally bind two people, but when the world’s second-richest man, worth $221 billion, ties the knot, things are bound to be different. With Bezos’ wedding prep dominating global headlines, the Municipality of Venice has felt compelled to issue a clarification. In an official note, the city reassured that the American tech tycoon’s three-day celebration, scheduled from June 24 to 26, will not disrupt regular life in the lagoon city.
Mayor Luigi Brugnaro stated, “The many news and information circulating about Jeff Bezos‘ wedding are completely unfounded. There will be around 200 guests, so it will be easy for Venice to host this event without any upheaval for the city, its residents, or tourists. Our city, over the years, has successfully managed international events far more impactful than this one. Venice has always been the stage for events and demonstrations, both public and private, which are always managed professionally, avoiding any disturbance to the community. Some examples include the G20 Economy, the G7 Justice, bilateral state meetings, the Art, Architecture, and Cinema Biennales, as well as large conferences, company gatherings, fashion shows, and VIP parties and weddings.”
The official also clarified that the planners of what is poised to be the biggest wedding of 2025 have not booked an excessive number of gondolas or water taxis, as previously reported by several publications, including Luxurylaunches. But speculation is only natural for such a star-studded affair. With names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Barbra Streisand, Kris Jenner, Eva Longoria, Oprah Winfrey, and possibly Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, and Kim Kardashian descending on Venice, it’s easy to see why residents might assume the fanfare could affect daily life. Still, with ample preparation time and top-tier teams in place, the wedding is expected to unfold smoothly, for guests and non-guests alike.
On a lighter note, it’s amusing to witness the kind of ripple effect a high-profile wedding can trigger. Perhaps the fact that Anant Ambani’s celebrations brought Portofino to a standstill, frustrating locals, is why Venice is preemptively stressing. But let’s not forget, Venice is used to playing host to grand affairs. And with the magnificent $500 million Koru megayacht at their disposal, it’s likely Bezos and Sanchez will keep the real action at sea, leaving Venice beautifully calm on land.
