A trip to space with Leonardo DiCaprio sells for $1.5 million

Leonardo DiCaprio is the man of the moment, riding high on the success of The Great Gatsby. But, the 37-year-old Vasily Klyukin was keen to ride higher with the star. Hence he has shelled out $1.5 million to fly into space with Leonardo DiCaprio on Virgin Galactic’s new commercial spaceship. Space tourism has gained tremendous momentum, and the average cost of literally going out of this world on board Virgin Galactic is just $200,000. However, the lucky rich bidder from Monaco must have been keen to travel with Leo as his space buddy and hence gladly walked away with the winning bid of a million and a half dollars at a charity auction at the Cannes film festival. This amount will benefit amfARaCinema Against AIDS, hosted by amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. DiCaprio and Klyukin will board a Virgin Galactic flight along with a bidder who bought two other tickets for $2.3 million.

This isn’t the first time we have seen a Hollywood star get hooked on to space travel. We have already read Ashton Kutcher being the 500th “astronaut customer” to fly into space with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Katy Perry also gifting Russell Brand a $200,000 ticket to space.
