First Look: Virgil Abloh offers a holographic take on Louis Vuitton’s classic Keepall

Many newly appointed creative directors might be tempted to shelve their genius ideas in deference to the image of the brand or company they now work for, but Virgil Abloh is taking no prisoners. The designer is not shying away from the streetwear inspiration that put him on the map and we got our first taste courtesy of LV’s Instagram in a photo that revealed a traditional Keepall bag that had been given a holographic makeover.

The bag is embossed all over with the LV logo, but it stands out thanks to the iridescent finish on the surface of the material. The bag is accessorized with a luggage tag and a clear plastic chain strap. In a previous post, the brand has revealed a tan cross body bag which features a similar chain detail in white.

The comments on the Instagram posts reflect the polarized views on the Abloh for LV designs we’ve seen so far. Some commenters loved the bag, while others feel it is too much of a departure from the dna of LV. For our part, we don’t adore the bag, but Virgil’s recently showcased collection for his own brand Off White, keeps us hopeful for his LV debut at Paris Fashion Week.
