Never thought the day would come when fashion would make us say “woof” and “wow” in the same breath! But thanks to Louis Vuitton’s Dachshund Micro Bag Crossbody Bag Charm, that is now a given. The nearly $1,400 handbag, in all its cuteness, combines functional utility with irresistible, playful flair. It also proves that LV has been building a surprisingly extensive menagerie over the past few years. Unlike the nearly $9,400 Shiba Bag, the LV Dachshund Micro Bag Crossbody Bag Charm is far more accessible, costing roughly one-fourth as much.
At 8.3 x 4.7 x 2 inches, it is also, in my opinion, the cuter of the two and looks every bit like the pooch it is inspired by. It can hang from another handbag as an oversized charm, while its long leather strap allows it to be worn over the shoulder or crossbody. The faux-fur dachshund even opens into a tiny pouch that Louis Vuitton says can hold earbuds and similarly small essentials.
The dashing doxie carries a little history on its face too. Covering one eye is a pink rendition of Louis Vuitton’s historic Monogram Flower, one of the house’s most recognizable signatures since Georges Vuitton created the Monogram in 1896. Here, the 130-year-old motif has rather adorably been repurposed as an eye patch. The Shiba, by comparison, is a substantially larger pooch-shaped handbag, which also helps explain the gulf between their price tags. Speaking of size, earlier this year LV went to the opposite extreme with its whopping $18,500 XXL Dog Bag.
The tiny dachshund takes a more manageable approach, combining Monogram coated canvas, plush faux fur and gold-tone hardware while offering the twin possibilities of serving as both a bag charm and a micro bag. The internet, unsurprisingly, has been gushing over its cuteness, although the price has raised a few eyebrows. Some commenters pointed out, rather amusingly, that the Louis Vuitton dachshund costs more than their actual dog.
