Shocking! Balenciaga being Balenciaga is selling destroyed sneakers for $1,850 a pair.

Sneakerheads could go any lengths to get the best pairs in town. However, taking the sneaker fever a bit too far is Balenciaga. The brand has recently listed an exaggerated version of the distressed shoe for a ludicrous $1850. Yes, that’s right!

Being sold as part of the brand’s new campaign, the shoes are simply meant to suggest that the new Paris sneakers “are meant to be worn for a lifetime.” However, the reason why they’re up for actual sale is still unknown.

There are almost 100 ‘dirty and destroyed’ pairs that are up for grabs in both black and white hues. And while they aren’t tattered to a point where they can’t be worn, we’d be surprised to see anyone pay the asking price.

Dismayed by the sneakers, GQ France editor Pam Boy said, “The message is clear: buy and keep forever. “Demna will make people who can afford luxury items purchase ‘pre-worn’ looking sneakers for 1450€. He is completely turning the essence of luxury upside down.”

He further added, “It’s the opposite of a sybaritic mindset, and once again, he is making fun of people who will indeed spend a minimum wage on items that 1. they might deem disposable and 2. which are seemingly worthless. Is a luxury house the right medium for this message? I don’t know. But I hate to love it.”

Would you spend $1850 on these worn-out wonders by Balenciaga?
