Aston Martin and Glenfiddich have joined forces to create a whisky that has been nearly three decades in the making. Called Glenfiddich 28 Years Old, the limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky brings together two iconic British brands, with a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, innovation and the pursuit of perfection. The timing of its creation also has an interesting connection to Aston Martin’s automotive history, as the spirit was first laid into casks in the late 1990s, when the automaker was preparing for a major new chapter with the development of Project Vantage and the arrival of the V12-powered DB7 Vantage.

The 28-year-old expression is the work of Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman, who has brought together several different cask influences to create a rich and layered whisky. Its maturation combines American and European oak, with virgin American oak playing a particularly important role. The whisky is initially matured in American oak before undergoing a secondary maturation in virgin oak casks, introducing deep spice and vanilla sweetness. This is combined with whisky from European oak Oloroso sherry-seasoned hogsheads, which contribute texture and a rich sherried character, while traditional ex-bourbon casks bring the vibrant orchard fruit notes associated with Glenfiddich.

The result is a complex expression that balances the different influences of oak while retaining the distillery’s familiar character. According to Kinsman, working with highly active casks allowed him to experiment with different layers of maturation without losing the distinctive fruit notes that have become synonymous with Glenfiddich. The expression also reflects the distillery’s 139-year whisky-making legacy and the expertise passed down through generations of Malt Masters.

The collaboration extends beyond the whisky itself, with Aston Martin’s design team helping develop a distinctive presentation box inspired by the movement and performance of its sports cars. Flowing forms, layered detailing and carefully considered lighting effects create a sense of depth and motion across the packaging. Podium Green, bold copper finishes and Glenfiddich’s iconic stag emblem bring the identities of both brands together, giving the limited-edition release a distinctly automotive touch.
Stefano Saporetti, Aston Martin’s Director of Brand Diversification, describes the release as a celebration of craftsmanship, creativity and continual refinement, with the finished product intended to be a collector’s piece. Glenfiddich 28 Years Old will go on sale in January 2027, with availability restricted to the United States and leading global travel retail outlets. The brands have yet to disclose its price or production numbers, making the eventual release details particularly interesting for whisky collectors and Aston Martin enthusiasts.
