Would you call yourself the truest, bluest whiskey buff? What would you say then if you heard that one of the rarest single-malt whiskies would be available to taste for one night only? “Awesome,” correct? No need to say more. The $27,000 Glenfiddich 50 Year Old, one of the finest from the scotch distillery, will be available to taste on Wednesday, September 4 at the Texan San Antonio cocktail bar 1919. The speakeasy is hosting a tasting of the extremely limited edition whisky along with a mix of five other single malts and a five-course meal prepared by chef Stefan Bowers of San Antonio’s restaurant, Feast. And a feast it will be especially when paired with a 1974 Vintage, Glenfiddich 30 Year Old and the 50, the latter being bottled at only a numbered 50.
A chosen few, 20 to be exact, will get to be guests of Glenfiddich’s ambassador himself. At $1500, David Allardice will take each through the celestial universe of zesty orange marmalade and exuberant vanilla toffee followed by layers of herbs, fruit, hints of smoke, with the rich whiskey journey ending in a dry oaky finish.
