Maldives’ iconic Soneva Fushi resort to get overwater villas with their own water slides

If Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, Soneva Fushi, Maldives has got to be the loveliest of them all. It is in fact a lot like the Disneyland of islands with abundance, grandeur and the newly added- overwater villas. Perched above the turquoise depths of the Indian Ocean, the eight new one- and two-bedroom water retreats are scheduled to open to guests by April 2020. The resorts sustainable philosophy of ‘no news, no shoes’ will be a part of the new overwater villas too. Let’s get talking about these phenomenal new additions. From what we know, both the villas are very commodious with 584 sqm (6,286 sqft) and 857 sqm (9,224 sqft) respectively. The fun is escalated with the addition of private pools and slides. These private pools plunge directly into the Indian Ocean. Our favorite part has got to be outdoors and not just cause of the fantastic nature surrounding the place. A large alfresco deck has a lot to do with our love for outdoors here, which includes plush sun loungers, a sunken seating area and catamaran nets over the ocean. Both villa types feature an expansive upper level with a dining salsa and day bed, as well as Soneva’s signature outdoor bathroom with direct access to the sea – ideal for guests looking to shower off after a dip in the balmy waters, or for a relaxing bath under the stars.

Reclaimed driftwood and crisp white linens adorn the living area which is well planned with a well-stocked wine fridge and minibar to an ample pantry. The place is great for families s it features; a king-sized bed for the ultimate in comfort and a separate children’s sleeping area. The kids will especially enjoy the chance to make the ceiling retract automatically with a simple push of a button. This enables guests to wake under the bright morning sun or sleep under a blanket of stars. Like all Soneva’s carbon-neutral properties, construction materials for the villas were sourced sustainably. The starting price for the new Water Retreats at Soneva Fushi is $2,626 (1 bedroom villa) and $5,232 (2 bedroom villa).
