The word ‘tequila’ usually brings back memories of margaritas or better still, of juicy lemon wedges, each with a snowy cover of salt, piercing your tongue after every shot. Or in some cases, no memories at all. But a Four Seasons property in Mexico, is out to teach patrons nuances of the fine spirit, via a gourmet meal with tequila degustation and ride in a private helicopter.
The award-winning, beach facing, Four Seasons, Punta Mita is offering to fly its guests, via private helicopter, to the family-run Mundo Cuervo distillery in the town of Tequila, Mexico. No trip to Mexico should be complete without a trip to the birthplace of the blue agave beverage after all. And the Four Seasons folk are making sure visiting tequila aficionados do it the customized way, with private tastings with an expert sommelier and exclusive behind-the-scenes tours.
“Premium tequila is one of the most coveted beverages in the world and is deeply rooted in Mexico’s history,” said John O’Sullivan, General Manager of the resort. “With our Ultimate Tequila Tour, we’ve created an incredible journey that takes our guests from blue agave fields to esteemed private cellars, providing special access to discover the origins of tequila and taste rare reserve blends of this beloved spirit.”
The nine-hour excursion will begin in the blue agave fields, from where guests will embark on a guided tour of La Rojeña, the oldest tequila distillery in the world. Next, top-shelf spirits will be complemented by a three-course lunch prepared by the Mundo Cuervo chef and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita chef and live music by an authentic mariachi band. Guests will also get to make and take home a one-liter demijohn filled with their exclusive tequila blend. This one-of-a-kind adventure will end in a private area of the distillery. The Ultimate Tequila Tour is priced at $20,000 for two and is based on availability.
