Perhaps high fashion outfits weren’t on your mind when you wrote to Santa to send you more Barbie dolls all those years ago, but today’s dolls are fast turning into the latest vehicle to display designers’ couture creations in mini-me avatars. We’ve already seen designers like Jason Wu and Zuhair Murad give us pint sized prêt on doll models and now Mizrahi will be the latest designer to lend his name to a stylish doll. In collaboration with The Alexander Doll Co. Mizrahi will create a selection of Madame Alexander dolls, doll apparel and doll accessories under his Isaac Mizrahi New York label. Mizrahi will create both collectible and play dolls; the deal includes working with Cissy, a 21-inch couture collectible doll (retail value of $1,000), Alex, a 16-inch contemporary fashion collectible doll (retail value of $200) and an 18-inch play doll (retails for $70).
Clad in a red and pink satin dress that references one of Isaac’s more recent designs, Cissy will be accessorized with sunglasses, a watch, bracelet and clutch that are inspired by accessories from the Isaac Mizrahi New York Collection. While Cissy will be the moneymaker of this collection, Isaac confessed that his favorite was actually Alex who is dressed for success in a white ribbed tee shirt and long “Isaac pink” taffeta ball skirt with a pink tulle underskirt. A short orange and pink striped puffer jacket, brown faux fur trapper hat and black motorcycle boots complete Alex’s outfit which is inspired by one of his early ‘90s collections. The dolls will be available come November on the Madame Alexander website.
Designing miniature clothing was not a stretch for Isaac who started out sewing clothing for puppets on his father’s sewing machine. He also teased that he would definitely be interested in pursuing future collaborations with Madame Alexander.
