Pelikan Herzstück 1929 Limited Edition commemorates the 90th anniversary of the fountain pen that made history

German brand Pelikan is commemorating the 90th anniversary of the introduction of its famous differential piston-fill system by releasing a limited edition fountain pen. Called the Pelikan Herzstück 1929 fountain pen, it will be available next month and only 462 numbered pieces will be up for grabs. Here’s a little bit of history to explain what makes the new limited edition writing instrument truly special. It was in 1929 when the Pelikan fountain pen was born, which is credited for being the world’s first pen to introduce the differential piston mechanism. It was a huge improvement over the filling systems available at that time and it won’t be wrong to say that it altered the course of fountain pen history. The limited edition pays tribute to the original Pelikan fountain pen that could be recognized by its dark green barrel, differential piston mechanism, and transparent ink window.

The new limited edition Herzstück 1929 fountain pen carries many of the stylings and functional elements are seen on the very first Pelikan fountain pen, including the translucent ink viewing window, pelican beak-inspired clip and the logo on the cap. The original patent number of the differential piston mechanism is engraved on the piston cylinder and the 18k solid gold Medium nib is specially inscribed for this edition. The limited edition arrives in a special black presentation which also includes a bottle of Royal Blue Pelikan ink. It is already available on pre-order and is priced at $3000.
