ReceptionThe Peninsula Shanghai is an undoubtedly one of the best hotels in the bustling city and tucked away in this luxurious hotel is the Peninsula Spa. An oasis of 13,000 sq ft that is pure indulgence for the mind and the body. The perfect place to unwind, warm up and get pampered. A step into the Spa and you can feel yourself slowly surrender to the surroundings. Soothing tones of navy and ivory complement the dark wooden flooring. Fireplaces and under floor heating create a warm welcoming atmosphere and large botanical art pieces adorn the walls. The Spa uses the luxury skincare products of ESPA and has everything from holistic treatments to state of the art modern therapies.
Relaxation LoungeMy journey started with a Q&A with the therapist in the consultation room, where I was explained the different therapies offered. I chose the 50 minute Jet lag eliminator massage which is just what the doctor ordered after my 5 hour flight from Guangzhou.
Treatment RoomIt was a treatment designed to relax and revitalize. As I was led to the treatment rooms I could not help but notice the aesthetically and elegantly done up spa. The treatment room was quaint and relaxing. It was decorated with traditional Chinese motifs and art. The soft music playing in the background was soothing and calming.
VIP SutieMy treatment started with a body massage with a special ESPA body oil made from cloves and Indian bay leaves. The oil and the calming strokes of the therapist helped me to unwind and I could feel the muscles relax under her touch. The inhalation of the clove and musk bath oil further enhanced the entire experience. With just the perfect amount of pressure and with her knowledge of reflexology the therapist seemed to know just the right points to press. The massage points on the toes, palms and shoulders transported me to seventh heaven. I had 50 minutes of pure, unadulterated relaxation.
The treatment was extremely soothing and rejuvenating at the same time. As I left the Spa, my mind and body felt energized and it was truly an uplifting experience.
