The 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid is the most environmental-friendly Bentley till date

Bentley has taken another step towards electrifying its line-up and transition towards sustainable mobility by introducing a hybrid variant of the Flying Spur. Joining the Bentayga Hybrid SUV in the British luxury automaker’s portfolio of electrified models, the 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid is a part of Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy to become an end-to-end carbon neutral organization. The plan includes the launch of the first-ever battery-electric Bentley by 2025 and electrification of the entire line-up by 2030. Bentley claims the new Flying Spur Hybrid that joins the existing V8 and W12 models in the line-up is the most efficient car ever made by the manufacturer, which is quite impressive.

The centerpiece of the 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid is its powertrain that has been newly developed for this specific car. At the heart of it is a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 engine which is closely related to the automaker’s 4.0-liter V8 and follows the same architecture. However, it churns out 410 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful, per liter, than the V8 it is based on. Supplementing the gas engine is an electric motor that contributes 134 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, taking the combined output to 536 horsepower.

The 2022 Flying Spur Hybrid has 95 horsepower more than the Bentayga Hybrid, despite being more efficient than the luxury SUV. Bentley says the hybrid sedan can sprint from zero to 60mph in 4.1 seconds, 0.1 seconds slower than the V8 Flying Spur, and hit a top speed of 177mph. The model’s small 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery offers enough juice for 25 miles of electric-only driving, giving the Flying Spur Hybrid a total driving range of over 435 miles.

The rest of the PHEV is almost identical to the other variants in the Flying Spur variant. Buyers can choose from seven standard paint colors for the exterior, along with over 60 other finishes and bespoke options. The special Blackline Specification swaps the glossy exterior paint for a more discreet, dark finish. A new ‘Hybrid’ badge can be found on the lower front fenders, while the charging port sits on the left rear fender. 20-inch wheels are standard, but the Flying Spur Hybrid can be optioned with 21-inch or 22-inch versions. The 2022 Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid goes on sale this summer with a starting price of $204,000 in the US. In other news from Bentley, the British automaker has entered into a partnership with the makers of single malt Scotch The Macallan. The global partnership will see the two brands jointly develop products, create customer experiences and work together on events.
