The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced almost the entire global population to stay indoors which has drastically decreased the massive strain we put on our environment. We can clearly see nature taking over in just a few weeks of lockdown, which is a clear message to us: we need to drastically reduce our carbon footprint and let the earth breath easy. Sustainable mobility is an essential aspect of it. And while we continue to transition to electric cars, we can always have a greater focus on cycling; something the Scandinavian countries have successfully demonstrated over the last few years. BMW’s next-generation of upcoming electric cars are eagerly awaited by automotive enthusiasts like me, but the Bavarian automaker’s newest offering – a limited edition bicycle – is just as cool and more relevant than ever in a world where people are becoming more environmentally conscious. The aerodynamic design of the bicycle and its drop handlebar might give you the impression that this BMW bike is strictly for road use; however, BMW says it can tackle all conditions, including gravel.
Created in collaboration with Italian bike manufacturer 3T, the limited-edition BMW bike is based on the manufacturer’s highly popular Exploro all-road bike and created especially for BMW’s adventure-seeking clientele. “3T was a natural choice for us, as 3T’s Exploro model is the best gravel bike available combining performance, luxury and cycling pleasure to our customers”, said Gaston Streiger, Head of BMW Lifestyle division. The bike features a sharp, aerodynamic carbon frame along with the world’s lightest carbon aero cranks made at 3T’s Italian carbon factory. Fulcrum alloy wheels fitted with resistible Schwalbe One Speed tires give the bike excellent grip with maximum speed on any terrain which includes everything from cobbled city streets to abandoned B-roads and mountain trails. The limited-edition BMW bike also comes with an exclusive Brooks leather saddle and matching Brooks leather grips. Available in two different colors, the 3T bike for BMW has a starting price of $5499.
