Ahead of Watches and Wonders 2026, Maserati and Bianchet have revealed a limited-edition timepiece that reads less like a conventional collaboration and more like a tightly engineered object shaped by two different disciplines arriving at the same conclusion. Called the UltraFino Maserati, the watch is restricted to just 100 pieces and marks a century of the Trident emblem, but its real story sits beneath the surface, in the architecture of its movement and the restraint of its proportions.

The partnership itself is positioned as a meeting of Italian performance and Swiss precision, though the watch avoids leaning too heavily on automotive theatrics. Instead, it translates Maserati’s current design language into something more abstract, with cues drawn from the MCPura supercar filtered through Bianchet’s focus on proportion, symmetry, and mechanical clarity. The result is a watch that references a car without becoming one in miniature.

At the center of the UltraFino Maserati is the Bianchet UT01 calibre, an ultra-thin automatic flying tourbillon movement measuring just 3.85 mm in thickness. This is not a trivial number, especially in a category where reducing height often compromises structural integrity. Bianchet approaches the problem with a suspended mainspring barrel that eliminates the traditional ratchet wheel, reclaiming vertical space while maintaining a 60-hour power reserve. The tourbillon cage itself is reduced to 2.66 mm and houses a large variable inertia balance wheel beating at 3 Hz, striking a balance between visual presence and mechanical stability.

The movement is composed of 225 components and 29 jewels, all finished by hand with sandblasting, satin brushing, polishing, and extensive hand beveling across the bridges and main plate. What stands out is not just the finishing, but the way the architecture has been opened up, allowing the tourbillon to remain visually dominant without overwhelming the rest of the dial. The skeletonized layout draws inspiration from Maserati’s design language, yet remains grounded in traditional watchmaking logic.

The case continues this theme of engineered lightness. Constructed from high-density carbon fibre with vulcanized rubber elements, it measures 9.9 mm in total thickness and weighs just 36 grams without a strap. Grade 5 titanium is used extensively for the movement’s bridges, reinforcing the focus on rigidity and weight reduction. Despite its slim profile, the watch is rated to withstand shocks of up to 5,000 G, an unusually high figure for a tourbillon and a clear attempt to position it as more than a delicate showpiece.

The timepiece offers water resistance to 50 meters and is fitted with glare-proof sapphire crystals on both the front and back. Buyers can choose between an integrated carbon fiber bracelet or a natural rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp, both designed to maintain the watch’s lightweight character.

Limited to 100 individually numbered examples and produced in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the UltraFino Maserati ultimately presents itself as a study in control. It does not chase excess or spectacle, choosing instead to refine the idea of a modern tourbillon into something thinner, lighter, and more structurally resolved, while carrying just enough of Maserati’s identity to remind you where the story began.
