Superyacht Lady S is once again acting like a lady after losing power at sea and limping into Falmouth, UK, a few weeks ago. The “S” might as well stand for strength: the 305-foot Feadship, once described as “limping,” has shown true grit, flying in engineers by helicopter and setting course once again, this time for Amsterdam. Owned by former Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder, the nearly $200 million vessel made Falmouth Harbor her temporary home for eleven days, from October 9 to 21, before heading for Amsterdam on the 23rd.
From the embarrassment of losing propulsion in the Bay of Biscay to cruising steadily across the English Channel and the North Sea, Lady S reached IJmuiden on the Dutch coast, and continued directly through the sea lock and up the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam the same morning. She covered roughly 448 nautical miles in 43 hours at an average speed of 10.5 knots, far below her usual 14-knot cruising pace, but remarkable considering the setback.
Falmouth’s skilled marine engineers likely restored her propulsion, steering, cooling, and fuel systems and stabilized her navigation electronics. The 3,000-GT “limping lady” was again seaworthy enough for an overnight passage through one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.
According to AIS data, Lady S is now moored in Amsterdam’s Westpoort industrial harbor, home to Feadship’s Amsterdam yard operated by Royal Van Lent. Her propeller, rudder, shaft, running gear, and hull are in expert hands ready to bring her fully back to form. The yard, opened in 2019, can handle construction and refit work on yachts up to 525 feet long, a fitting “superyacht hospital” for a vessel of this pedigree.
Every child returns home after a fall, and Lady S, born at Feadship, is no exception. Designed inside and out by the multi-award-winning Reymond Langton Design, the yacht sleeps 12 guests in seven cabins and boasts a helipad, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club, and gym.
Available for charter at nearly $2 million a week, Lady S remains a floating symbol of wealth, sophistication, and entertainment despite her recent hiccup. The magnificent vessel was designed around the idea of indulgence, featuring a two-deck IMAX theater, the first ever installed on a superyacht. The $3 million cinema was, in fact, Snyder’s personal request.
For those who prefer watching classics under the stars, there’s a 201-inch outdoor television. Her dazzling interiors, often compared to a contemporary jewelry box, include a hammam, an interactive dance floor, and a beach club beneath a vast glass-bottomed swimming pool. Regal, isn’t she? And like every queen that occasionally needs a touch of TLC, Lady S is currently in Amsterdam for rejuvenation, certain to emerge even more radiant and powerful than before.
