Opinions have been quite mixed about the Ferrari F80, Maranello’s latest flagship hypercar that replaces the Ferrari LaFerrari at the top of the lineup. Divisive styling apart, the twin-turbo V6 hybrid powerplant has purists up in arms. That hasn’t stopped the value of the Ferrari F80 from appreciating in the days since its reveal, though.
An online German car marketplace has one from a local supercar dealer listed for a whopping $2.4 million over its original asking price. Specifically, Mobile has a build slot for a Ferrari F80 listed for about $6.3 million, specified to how the new owner wants. The catch is that the owner can only take delivery in 2025 once the car is actually built.
On the other hand, the same website also has a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta listed for about $6.4 million – a small price to pay for one of Ferrari’s most highly appreciating modern supercars. For context, the price tag on this now-8-year-old LaFerrari Aperta was about $2.3 million when new. Of course, the LaFerrari Aperta has rarity on its side with only 210 units being produced versus the 799-unit planned production run for the Ferrari F80.
Not to mention that even though the LaFerrari Aperta “only” puts out 963 horsepower to the F80’s 1,200 horsepower, the older Ferrari has a hybrid V12 that sounds the part. The Ferrari F80’s hybrid V6 has been caught on video sounding a little underwhelming.
It remains to be seen if Ferrari will take action against Mobile for flipping a build slot. A North-American dealer has sued a Ferrari Purosangue customer for flipping his car. While the asking price for this Ferrari F80 does seem a little high, getting another allocation could be next to impossible. Ultimately, the choice is yours if you have the money: old V12 Ferrari or new V6 Ferrari?
