In a significant move that signals the evolution of sustainable mobile living, California-based startup AC Future has partnered with legendary Italian design firm Pininfarina to unveil a trio of transformable living spaces at CES 2025. The collaboration marks a bold step forward in addressing modern housing challenges while embracing AI-driven sustainability.
The lineup consists of three distinct models, each built on the same innovative platform but serving different lifestyle needs. At the heart of each design is the ability to expand dramatically, creating spacious 400-square-foot living environments from surprisingly compact forms.
The AI-THu (AI Transformer Home Unit), starting at $98,000, serves as the company’s entry point into the market. This stationary unit is designed as a smart home solution that can function as an office, additional bedroom, or guest space. Despite being the most conventional of the three offerings, it incorporates sophisticated features including AI-driven home systems, solar power generation, and water harvesting technology.
Perhaps the most intriguing offering is the AI-THt (AI Transformer Home Trailer), a 24-foot travel trailer that breaks conventional design boundaries. Unlike traditional trailers, it expands both longitudinally and laterally, featuring a suspended living room and a forward patio area. The absence of a driving cabin allows for more efficient use of interior space, while Pininfarina’s design expertise is evident in its aerodynamic profile that promises improved towing efficiency.
Completing the lineup is the AI-THd (AI Transformer Home Drivable), an evolution of the company’s original eTH concept. This fully motorized version integrates all the transformable features of its siblings while adding complete mobility. The vehicle boasts over 5kW of solar power capacity and includes an innovative atmospheric water generation system, making it a truly self-sufficient mobile habitat.
AC Future’s co-CEO Laura Czarnecki has announced that reservations are now open for all three models, with initial deliveries expected in Q4 2026. The extended timeline suggests the company is taking a measured approach to bringing these ambitious concepts to market.
The partnership between AC Future and Pininfarina represents a significant step in the evolving relationship between traditional automotive design and modern sustainable living solutions. As the lines between home, office, and mobility continue to blur, this collaboration offers a glimpse into how future living spaces might adapt to changing lifestyle needs while maintaining a focus on sustainability and technological integration.
With the mobile living sector seeing increased innovation from multiple players, AC Future’s approach stands out for its comprehensive ecosystem of solutions, from stationary to fully mobile options, all unified by common design language and technology platform. As the company moves toward production, it will be interesting to see how these ambitious concepts translate into real-world applications.
