Tesla finally delivered the first batch of the long-promised Cybertruck at an event hosted at its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. In addition to Elon Musk revealing a handful of specs and details for the stainless steel-bodied truck, the automaker released what can only be perceived as one of the coolest promotional videos. To showcase its capability, Tesla made a video of a Cybertruck beating a Porsche 911 in a drag race while towing another 911. Tesla didn’t mention which type of 911 was used for the race, but the Porsches used for the video appear to be 992-generation Carrera Ts. The American EV maker also didn’t reveal the trim level of the Cybertruck that ran the quarter mile, but we are presuming it must be the most potent tri-motor version.

The promotional video ends with a graphic that shows a claimed quarter-mile time of under 11 seconds and a 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds. With an officially declared 0-60mph time of 2.6 seconds, the Cybertruck was going to out-accelerate the slowest Porsche 911 available for sale. However, doing it while towing another 911, which weighs more than 3000 lbs., is super impressive. The result would have been very different had they raced against a Porsche 911 Turbo S, which has proven to go from 0-60mph in around 2.2 seconds in various privately conducted tests. Tesla is no stranger to pulling off stunts to impress its fans and build up hype. You might remember that Musk posted a pointless tug-of-war video of the Cybertruck pitted against a F-150 in 2019.
While the latest video by Tesla can prove to be successful in attracting the attention of potential customers, the idea behind it is not quite original. Way back in 2016, famous automotive journalist Jason Cammisa pulled off a similar stunt by pitting an Alfa Romeo 4C against a Tesla Model X P100D in the Ludicrous mode, towing another Alfa 4C. In addition to releasing the video, Tesla also announced some important specs.
The Cybertruck has an 11,000 lbs. towing capacity along with a 2,500 lbs. max payload, while the dual-motor version will offer an estimated range of 340 miles. Tesla says the ultra-hard stainless steel exoskeleton will get fewer dents, less damage, and offer protection from long-term corrosion. Furthermore, the shatter-resistant Armor Glass can resist the impact of a baseball at 70mph.
