It was in 1907 when Sir Henry Royce’s original Silver Ghost achieved a non-stop long distance endurance record of 14,371 miles with the Honorable Charles Stewart Rolls behind the wheel. On the event’s 111th anniversary, the British luxury carmaker is celebrating the record run by launching a special Silver Ghost Collection, based on the 2018 Ghost and strictly limited to only 35 units. Each of the 35 special edition cars will be finished in bespoke Cassiopeia Silver paint, a hue that echoes the color of the original motor car. The special hand-painted coachline takes eight hours to be applied by Rolls-Royce’s “master coachline painter” and uses fine particles of 100 percent pure silver.
The special edition’s gloss black radiator grille and the fully-polished wheel centers with “Silver Ghost Since 1907” lettering engraved on a Cassiopeia Silver backing echo the fine details of the original car. The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament is also crafted from solid sterling silver which sits on a black-gold-plated hammered copper base. It also features a special “AX201” hallmark, the registration plate of the original Silver Ghost. The interior is wrapped in Forest Green leather which is combined with newly designed silver tipped leather making its Rolls-Royce debut. In addition to that, the cabin features a bespoke central console that houses a special timepiece, sunglasses, accessories case and a ‘Silver Ghost’ pen.
“The extraordinary accomplishments of our marque’s founding fathers are honored by the creation of this elegant ‘Silver Ghost Collection’,” said Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective masterfully weave the rich narrative of the original ‘Silver Ghost’ into just 35 motor cars, creating a contemporary homage to the original motor car. Today, our craftspeople and master artisans continue this legacy of excellence, creating unique motor cars that define luxury.”
