This gorgeous bookstore in China has Escher styled crazy steps


Bookworms can now read to happiness while basking in a décor that is just as pleasing! Presenting you a bookstore par brilliance is Shanghai-based firm X+living that has recently curated the look for the Chongqing Zhongshuge bookstore in China. Complete with a maze of stairs and a stately décor, the site is a delight for the lovers of architecture as well as the written word.

Located on the 3rd and 4th floor of the existing Zodi Plaza building in Yangjiaping, Chongqing, China, the store welcomes visitors to a theatrical interior, complete with lampshade-shaped bookshelves, an Escher-like reading area, and a vibrant children’s room with drawings of the city’s landscape and buildings. It further features a simple glass façade with dark brown lobbies that facilitate a warm environment that is perfect for a reading session. The space below the corridor, also known as the ladder hall boasts of stairs that double as bookshelves with a mirrored ceiling that adds the illusion of space to the already vast room.

On the 4th floor above the reading area is a leisure room, where visitors can enjoy a cuppa while immersing in meaningful conversations or simply gaze at the beauty of the interiors surrounding them.
