Sotheby’s is auctioning the Bowmore ARC‑54 ‘Iridos Edition’, an Aston Martin decanter cradling a 54‑year‑old whisky

Sotheby’s is set to auction the Bowmore ARC-54: Iridos Edition, a stunning, one-of-a-kind decanter that brings oodles of charm to any connoisseur’s space, thanks to its sculptural, superlative design. This exceptional vessel holds a rare 54-year-old whisky from the Bowmore Distillery on Islay, Scotland, and is the result of a refined collaboration with Aston Martin. If this feels like déjà vu, it’s because Sotheby’s previously partnered with Bowmore in 2023 for the exclusive ARC-52 Mokume Edition.

Now, the ARC-54 follows as a sinuous story made solid, a handblown glass decanter inspired by the lines and fluidity of Aston Martin’s ultimate hypercar, the Valkyrie. What lies within is just as extraordinary: a complex whisky distilled in November 1968 that encapsulates the multi-dimensional character of Bowmore. It matured over 50 years in a combination of a 2nd fill European Oak Sherry Butt and a 3rd fill American Oak Hogshead.

A drink this refined, layered with zesty citrus, delicate floral notes, salted caramel sweetness, and hints of spiced ginger and cinnamon, deserves a decanter that’s just as dramatic. The Valkyrie-inspired design, with its flowing aerodynamic lines and F1-grade precision, mirrors the fluid movement of whisky rather than airflow, creating a visual and tactile masterpiece. The venturi tunnel-like form also pays homage to the terroir of Islay, resulting in a decanter that’s as artistic as it is functional.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, puts it best: “Bowmore ARC-54 continues the cutting-edge, technology-based collaboration between two exceptional brands steeped in heritage and tradition. It embodies the innovative thinking behind Valkyrie and Valhalla, where we push boundaries. The ARC-54 decanter uses the same principles of materiality and fluid dynamics, replacing airflow with liquid movement,to create a uniquely sculpted form driven by the pure motion of Bowmore whisky. A truly creative collaboration.”

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Bowmore ARC-54 is not just a collectible, it’s an experience. One that only 130 collectors around the world will get to savor.
