Trust Amazon boss Jeff Bezos to turn a simple furniture delivery into a Manhattan spectacle. With a net worth of $220 billion, the world’s second-richest man sails aboard a $500 million megayacht, spends his summers in the Mediterranean, and even gets attention for the most basic errands, like moving furniture. No, the tech tycoon wasn’t sweating it out with brown, bulky boxes, though that would be quite something to witness. The 61-year-old billionaire, who owns five apartments atop the 24-story 212 Fifth Avenue, worth a combined $119 million, had cranes doing the chores.

To get his things safely home (which is basically the top four floors of the building), the tech tycoon employed several monster cranes and even had a stretch of Fifth Avenue shut down to make way for the delivery. Luckily for us, all the action was caught on camera by Raffi Arslanian, owner of luxury candle brand Thompson Ferrier, whose office is a block away. “You want to see how Jeff Bezos delivers his furniture? Let me show you,” said Arslanian, sharing the video on X. According to The New York Post, “A huge piece of wrapped furniture dangled from a rope as a crane last week slowly hoisted it above the intersection.”
What’s interesting is that Arslanian pointed out this is common practice among billionaires. It’s completely relatable, for the ultra-rich. But what sets Bezos apart is scale. Since he was furnishing a 17,000-square-foot residence, he used more cranes than usual. More cranes meant faster work, and the street could reopen sooner too. According to The NY Post, large-scale moves using cranes can cost upwards of $20,000 a day and require permits to shut down the streets. Clearly, Bezos had no problem spending big on something he wanted inside his penthouse overlooking Madison Square Park.
The soon-to-be-married billionaire purchased the three-floor penthouse, along with the two units directly below it, in 2018. His space includes 12 bedrooms, multiple terraces, and sits within the upscale 212 Fifth Avenue, a luxury building that features a fitness center, golf simulator, game room, and a private movie screening room. When you’re Jeff Bezos, even moving furniture becomes a full-scale urban production.
