A dream team, a dream mission, and astronauts who’ve never looked this dazzling. Lauren Sánchez is making history, and looking fabulous while at it. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, and her all-female space crew are set to soar into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard 31. The philanthropist is joined by civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, pop icon Katy Perry, producer Kerianne Flynn, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, all thanking their stars as they prepare to touch the Kármán line, 62 miles above Earth.
The 54-year-old helicopter pilot has been sharing snippets of their historic journey, hugging her gal pal Katy Perry, training in the flight simulator to ensure the crew is mission-ready, proudly flaunting her perfect training score of 100%, and endearingly FaceTiming her father just minutes before takeoff.
Once the capsule enters freefall, the crew will experience three to four magical minutes of weightlessness, floating from their seats to take in the breathtaking view. Funny how life works, the writer of The Fly Who Flew to Space is now flying there herself (she kept her customized Dior bag based on the book kept close).
Whether on Earth or en route to space, Lauren Sánchez can be trusted to look like a million bucks. The head-turner looked breathtaking even in a space suit, not your typical one adapted from male designs. These figure-hugging suits, tailored by powerhouse duo Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim (co-founders of Monse and creative directors at Oscar de la Renta), had Sánchez written all over them. Fashion-forward and functional, each suit features custom insignias representing the crew’s careers and dreams.
It’s also the first time a space tourist crew is heading out with full hair and makeup, this mission is all glam, in every sense of the word. As for Oscar de la Renta, the maison has been Sánchez’s go-to, be it her reflective masterpiece at the 2024 Met Gala, the lace mermaid gown at the Kering Foundation dinner, or her white feathered showstopper at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party. And if whispers are to be believed, we’ll be seeing more magic in June, on Earth, in a fairytale city called Venice, where the former news anchor will say “I do” to the world’s second-richest man.
