Stella McCartney has introduced the world’s first-ever mushroom-leather bag

With the world evolving and accepting sustainable forms of being, the definition of luxury, too, has undergone a change. There is an incessant need to move towards environmentally friendly materials, and a fitting ode to that is the introduction of mushroom leather.

While the luxury substitute has been heard of, we haven’t seen it being put to actual – until now. In taking the first step forward, Stella McCartney has introduced the world’s very first bag made from mycelium or, as we know it – mushroom leather. Yes, that’s right!

Unvieled in association with Bolt Threads, the Frayme Mylo bag, as it is called, will be launched in a limited edition of 100 pieces. Each of the arm candies will be individually numbered and bear an oversized recyclable aluminum chain strap running around the bag along with a zamac statement medallion.

The vegan bag is handcrafted by Italian artisans and was earlier unveiled on the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week in October 2021. Commenting on it, Dan Widmaier, Founder & CEO of Bolt Threads, in a statement, said, “It’s been an honor to partner so closely with Stella and her team as they break new ground in luxury fashion with Mylo.”

Bringing the first-ever luxury bag made from Mylo to market is a massive milestone for conscientious consumers, the biomaterials industry, and the future of luxury fashion.”

The Stella McCartney x Bolt Threads ‘Frayme Mylo’ bag will be available on the former’s official website onward July 1, 2022.
